Company's history

History of corrugated paperboard

  • Training firm F.E. ROPA S.R.L. was founded by the collective of class XI A, from the "Constantin Brâncuşi" High School, in the 2012-2013 school year.
  • After consulting the Roct.ro site and of the econimic realities from our county, we opted for the C.A.E.N. code 1721, respectively for the sphere of activity "Manufacture of corrugated paper and paperboard and of packs of paper and paperboard".
  • Our goal is to motivate people to use paper and cardboard packaging instead of plastic packaging, packaging of steel or any non biodegradable packaging.
  • The headquarters of this training firm is inside of the Technological Lyceum "Constantin Brâncuşi" from Saint George, Liberty street No11, zip code 520055.
  • History of corrugated paperboard spanning a period of over 100 years, and the appearance of this material was spurred by the need for a new type of packaging, a superior type of packing.

  • Here's how to get here:
1817 after 2000 years since the Chinese invented  cardboard, in England was manufactured the first carton packing.
1857 – English Healey and Allen obtained for the first time, corrugated paper, through a mechanical process, passing the paper between two grooved rollers. This product was used as a reinforcing element of the cylindrical part of the hat.
1879 – American Albert J. Jones, at New York, patent machine corrugated paper.
1874 – the corrugated cardboard appears in USA, once with Oliver Long's idea: adding, thru solder, a layer of paper over a wavy paper. Once this method was patented, appears the "corrugated paperboard" term. This corrugated paperboard has been used in particular to the packaging of bottles.
1882 – the corrugated paper with three layers was patented by R.H. Thomson
1919 – the U.S. Sefton company has patented the corrugated paperboard with five layers.
1953 – under the Tri-Wall name was produced the corrugated paperboard with six layers.
1957 – at Ghimbav was produced the first corrugated paperboard and packaging from Romania.
